for brighter futures

help teenagers realise their dreams

Develop yourself, make a difference and upgrade your CV!

Do you think it’s important to use your knowledge and experience to help a student with fewer opportunities? Or were you that teenager who struggled with school and now you want to help a young person yourself?

In the project Brighter Futures you coach a high school student who has fewer opportunities than his peers for two hours a week. You help with homework, planning, and developing future plans. The other hour is used to prepare for the appointment and to let us know how your student is doing via the digital dashboard.

We are looking for students who:

  • Speak Dutch
  • have 2-3 hours per week to help a pupil
  • are available for at least half a year (February to July)
  • want to use their experience and knowledge to help a student.

This is what you get from us:

  • a chance to develop yourself alongside your studies and make a social contribution
  • four workshops, including coaching, motivation, and learning styles
  • Flexible working hours
  • Monthly volunteer allowance of €60
The recruitment for 2022-2023 has started. Apply now and secure your spot!

frequently asked questions

Where does the homework assistance take place?
Tutoring takes place at the student’s school. Also in Covid-19 it is often possible to meet physically (provided that the basic rules such as 1.5 meters distance are maintained). This you agree with the student and the school. In some cases you choose to meet outside school. A public space is desirable.

What about the volunteer fee?
There is a volunteer allowance that is paid at the end of each month. The volunteer allowance per hour depends on your age.

What if I wasn’t able to give 3 hours of guidance in that week?
Generally speaking, the 3 hours in the week is desired. Sometimes this is not convenient for you and/or the student. Here you make clear agreements together. Furthermore, you can always suggest that you call the student once and/or that the student can approach you if he/she has a problem.

Can I also participate in MFBF for a few months?
Preferably you are available until the end of this academic year, this ensures that you can build a better relationship with your student. Are you interested in the project but available for a shorter period? Mention this in your application. Then this will be discussed during the introductory meeting.

Do I need to speak Dutch?
Yes. Your level of Dutch needs to be good in order to properly coach a Dutch high school student.

Match for Brighter Futures and Covid-19, is that possible?
Yes, we are still pairing students and pupils. The selection of students takes place online or in real life, depending on the current situation. When high schools are open, you can meet in real life with the student you are paired with. While tutoring, you will always keep 1.5 metres distance and follow the school’s guidelines. We expect you as a student to handle this responsibly.
